Bio

João Silvério obtained his Bachelor and Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon, Portugal, having studied at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), during the 2nd year of his Master's. There, he developed his Thesis at EPFL's Biorobotics Laboratory.

After graduating, he worked for 2 years at Nokia Solutions Networks as a Network Optimization Engineer. He then took on a new research challenge at the Learning Systems and Algorithms Laboratory (LASA), EPFL, where he was a Research Intern in the EU project Alter Ego. His work focused on identifying upper-body motor signatures of individual subjects and using Machine Learning methods to learn the signatures and reproduce them in a humanoid robot.

Currently, he is pursuing a PhD degree at IIT's Learning and Interaction Lab, where he works on Human-Robot collaborative manipulation and coordination in bimanual tasks. He is currently working on methods to encode relative orientations between end-effectors from human demonstrations.
