Bio

Stephen Morfey received his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics from Newcastle University in 2005, and was awarded the IMechE prize for Institution Best Student. Following this he joined the Shadow Robot Company, designing and building the Shadow Dexterous Hand and developing a pneumatically actuated arm. In 2007 he joined the medical robotics company Prosurgics, developing image-guided robots to assist with neurosurgery and the placement of dynamic hip screws. Since 2010, Stephen has worked at the Italian Institute of Technology and is the lead designer of the COmpliant huMANoid robot, COMAN.

 

Research Interests

Humanoid Robots, mechanism design, dexterous hands, compliant actuators, mechatronic design, medical robotics.
