Simone Ungaro

Born in Rome on 3 February 1971. Diploma, London School of Economics and Political Science (1993). Degree in Business and Economics, Università La Sapienza di Roma (1995). From January 2008 to January 2010 he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Fondazione Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). Since August 2007 he is Director general of the Fondazione Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). 2006 - 2007: Responsible for technology transfer of IIT as liaison between industry and scientific network of the Institute. 2004 - 2005: Advisor to the IIT Commissioner. Responsible for the coordination of all activities related to the start-up of the Institute. 2003 - 2006: Member of the Advisory and Tributary Inspection Service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance with the title of Expert. 2002 - 2006: Advisor to the General State Account and subsequently to the Director General of the Treasury (Ministry of Economy and Finance) for the setup and management of projects in the areas of organization, e-government, and forecasting and control models of state finance.



Jody Saglia

Jody Saglia received his Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering and Master's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering at Polytechnic of Turin in 2004 and 2007 respectively. He carried out research in robotics in Finland at Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), working on the design and control of mobile robots. He has been a researcher at King's College since 2006 and received his PhD degree in 2010. He also received a Master Degree in Technology Transfer and Management of Innovation from the University of Genoa in 2014. He has been a Postdoc researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the Department of Advanced Robotics since 2010, working on the design and development of rehabilitation and assistive technologies for the lower body. Currently, he is Team Leader at IIT working on projects for the development of rehabilitation robots and exoskeleton systems for Spinal Cord Injury subjects.  His research interests are rehabilitation robotics, mechatronic design, actuation systems, human-robot interaction and clinical evaluation of medical devices. He is also interested in technology transfer, entrepreneurship, innovation and start-ups that commercialize the results of academic research.



Paolo Ariano

At first it was a degree in Physics but after establishing a service company for blind people technologies and a researcher working experience for the National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM) I moved to Neuroscience for my PhD. I've studied electrical neuronal activity and interfaced for the first a time neurons with diamonds to uncover the possibility to fabricate transparent bio-sensors. Right now I'm Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) at the Center for Space Human Robotics. In the Artificial Physiology Lab we study hand movements and force analysis by surface electromyographic (sEMG) signals detected from forearm muscles. The team is developing a new generation of Electromyographic devices to pilot the future soft exoskeleton, code name HExEC.



Carlo Sanfilippo

Project Manager Facility Rehab Technologies



Carlo Sanfilippo has a degree in Physics and started his carrier, twenty years ago, working in the R&D staff of an Italian Company, Esaote S.p.A. located in Genoa – Italy, market leader in the design, production and sales of diagnostic medical device (in particular Ultrasound and MRI systems). During the following 12 years he developed significant experiences in Managing R&D projects to production, then in Product and Market Development. In the end he was in charge of the Production lines. Afterwards, in the past 8 years, he acted as a General Manager in medium companies focus on the production of complex electronic and electromechanical devices for different applications, including medical devices. Since 2012 he is managing, within the Facility Rehab Technologies of IIT, Technology Transfer projects focused on the development of robotic devices for the medical field, such as rehabilitation devices, exoskeletons and prostheses.




Rinaldo Sacchetti

Rinaldo Sacchetti was born in Genoa in 1957. He got a degree in mechanical engineering in 1983. After working as a designer of devices at Olivetti (Ivrea), he was hired in 1985 from INAIL Prostheses Centre of Vigorso di Budrio (Bologna – Italy) as the Head of Research and Experimentation. In 1992 he became Orthopedic Technician and became Technical Director of the production of upper limb prostheses, orthoses and aids and of the Research and Testing in this area of ​​activity. In 2005 he became Technical Director of the Production, Research and Testing of the Prostheses Centre; since 2013 he is the Technical Director of Research and Training Area; he is also managing  the Aids Department and related Technical Assistance. Adjunct Professor with the 'University of Ferrara; From 1987 to 2000, he was a member of the Commission's review of the ‘Nomenclatore Tariffario’ at the Ministry of Health; since 1997 he is  Member of the Research Scientific Commission of INAIL Prostheses Centre; numerous scientific publications. He has a long experience in the field of medical devices.



Angelo Andretta

Angelo Andretta was born in Lecce June 12, 1974 and he graduated in Florence in Law (1998) and Political Science (2007). He is an INAIL executive since 2008, and before being appointed as Director of Inail Prostheses Centre in  Vigorso Budrio (2014) he directed the INAIL offices of Piacenza, Parma and Bologna.






Emanuele Gruppioni

Emanuele Gruppioni was born in Agoust 6th 1975 in Bologna (Italy). In 2006, he received the Master Degree in Electronic Engineering with Biomedical Specialization issued by the University of Bologna. During the university studies he worked as technician and system administrator for private companies. At the end of the studies he obtained a scholarship in the field of organization and innovation in company management. Since 2006 he works for INAIL Prostheses Centre, Research Area. In 2014 he received the Degree in Orthopedic techniques and currently is responsible for the technical activities and the management of research projects. His activities mainly concern the design and developement of upper-limb prostheses systems, devices and software for home automation and new technologies for rehabilitation.



Simona Castellano

Degree in Medicine and Surgery on 23.03.1987 (Medical Association of Rome No. 38606),  with a specialization in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Medical Director, level II, Physiatrist  at the Rome branch of the INAIL Prostheses Centre from May 2014, regent of the same role at the INAIL Prosthesis Centre from November 2014. Hospital Doctor from 09/02/1991 to May 2014, she is Medical Director, level I, Physiatrist  at the "Unipolar Spinal Unit" CTO Hospital - A.Alesini Rome (Az. USL RM - C) since February 2007. Prior to that she worked at the Paraplegic Center Az. USL RM - D from 1999 to January 2007 and from September 1991 to 1993 and at Az. Hospital San Giovanni - Addolorata in Rome from 1993 to January 1999. He taught in Bachelor of Nursing (University "Tor Vergata" in Rome), Physiotherapist (University "La Sapienza" and "Tor Vergata" in Rome), Postgraduate School in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (University "Tor Vergata" in Rome), the three-year Master for Physicians (University "Tor Vergata" in Rome).
